A TACTILE IMPRESSION OF ABSTRACT EXPRESSION

Sequential series of 11 carved tactile-visual tiles portraying Picasso’s 1945 series of 11 lithographic bulls.  Developed to bring an Art Institute of Chicago special exhibit to the blind community in partnership with the Chicago Blind Services Association.

FIGURE 1.

Conceived as flashcards for translating visual and tactile imagery, these set of 8 slip cast porcelain and hand carved pieces are the culmination of a conceptual study into the similarities and differences of two dimensional and three dimensional space.  The piece is intended to align visual literacy between sighted teachers and blind students.

MUYBRIDGE IN MOTION AND THE SIGHT UNSEEN

An interactive, kinetic and multi-modal installation, the piece presents Muybridge’s pivotal 1878 series The Horse in Motion as a multiple sense experience.  Part of the International Museum of Surgical Science’s show Fractures and Dislocations, this piece invites audiences to see, feel, and hear the kinetic expression of a horse’s gallop.

KELP RIBBON - CAST IMPRESSTIONS

This study is a reflection of my practice of drawing inspiration from the world. This piece makes visible an awe inspiring texture otherwise hidden by the waves, and draws our minds to the expansive beauty of the ocean itself.   The gift of this unique texture presented in original works of art can bring awareness of how our attention is drawn through our environment.

FELT CONNECTION

Inspired after a microscopic view of wool fiber, half of this two part piece resides in Chicago, IL and the other in Aumsville, OR.  The depiction of a woolen fiber in two parts represents the act of felting, holding together two cities and two friends, connected through clay.
